Proverbs 14:30 – Peace or Envy

Proverbs 14:30 – A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

Every person has to decide for him or herself what is enough.

Be. Do. Have. All of these have a point where we may want more but we choose to say, ‘it is enough’, or we remain takers for the rest of our lives.

Social status, Where we were born, the choices of our parents and teachers, raw talent, inborn desires, work ethic, and providence all play a role in where we are today. Those who have more can be, do, or have more. Some peoples’ desires as well; they can be more expensive than the desires of others.

Is it easier to get everything you ever wanted, or change what you want to what is reasonable? It’s a question people fear to face. Let me be the first to say that if you are missing something crucial to your peace and well being, I hope you get what you need, and I am not pointing a finger at you.

Envy however, creates stress. Stress impacts cortisol, a hormone essential to our bodies. Too much of it leads to lower bone density! Clearly, King Solomon, led by the Holy Spirit to assemble the proverbs, was ahead of his time.

A solution to this envy is to allow God to define your status and not the systems of the world. Use God’s definitions. Go back to them in prayer and in scripture.

Proofs

Revelation 3:9 – Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan… I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you.

Psalm 139:14 – I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works’ and that my soul knoweth right well.

Isaiah 56:5 – Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.
