Deuteronomy 8:18 – God gives you the power to get wealth
The legendary evangelist George Mueller once said in a book he wrote, “Let no one profess to trust in God, and yet lay up for future wants, otherwise the Lord will first send him to the hoard he has amassed, before He can answer the prayer for more.” In the case of missionaries relying on God’s provision from day to day, that is wise counsel. To do otherwise in that scenario would be double-minded and demonstrate a lack of faith.
For many of us, however, this would be a sin of presumption, as there are many Bible passages that discuss the importance of preparing for the future. We don’t even need to get past Genesis to find Joseph’s 7-year plan to help Egypt survive a great famine. God tells us to prepare for the future, and provides examples of this working out in the favor of those who have followed Him.
The spirit behind George Mueller’s words is that we must trust in the Creator, not the creation.
Wealth is a tricky thing in that sometimes it accumulates because of our choices, yet wealth itself is not only a creation, but our choices are the result of God’s providence, mercy, and sometimes tolerance (to be brutally honest).
The Power to Get Wealth Does Not Come From You, But it is In You
Of all the times to be born in the world, you were born in this era. Of all the countries you could live in, you live in a place where you can read this blog post. You can read, while most of the world, for most of human history, couldn’t. You did not choose most of these things.
Start with God. That means prayer acknowledging him as the Creator and owner of this world. An affirmation of His character and His love for you. Finally, for your willingness to listen to Him and let Him work in your choices and in your business life. You’ll be amazed at the power of God. In some cases his providence will look like wealth; in other cases it will be the ability to recover from situations that would crush most wealthy people, and a peace even the biggest bank account couldn’t afford. Maybe all of the above. Let’s find out together.
If you think it would be best to get your business books in good working order, and that I could assist you in that process, schedule a call with me to discuss your business and your bookkeeping strategy.
