Proverbs 27:23 ESV – Know well the condition of your flocks, and give attention to your herds.
Know what’s going on in your business. This is a wealth building wisdom post. To see more explaining proverbs like this, read the others here.
In the old testament world, it was very common for herds and flocks to be a form of currency. Not everybody had gold and silver readily available in convenient amounts, and in religious ceremonies it’s pretty hard to burn gold or silver as a sacrifice. You also can’t eat gold, even in times of famine.
One could call this verse the bookkeeper’s verse, because it tells people to keep track of their resources effectively.
Why?
For the health and prosperity of all living things under your care.

Today our finances don’t leap fences and try to run away, even though some days it might feel like that. If you’re doing personal finances, you can use something simple as an expense tracking app on your phone or a spreadsheet on your computer to record every expense. These systems don’t allow you to compile reports along different dates, answer questions about income sources, or pay taxes effectively, so for business we need better tools like Quickbooks or Xero, plus the help of a good bookkeeper.
So try to use the system that will work best for you, and don’t neglect it. The person with the best systems has an advantage in your market.
